Affinity w/ ArchiCAD Integration

How Affinity w/ ArchiCAD Integration Works

Technical Requirements

Affinity software is available with bi-directional integration with ArchiCAD 13 & 14 (32- & 64-bit). This interoperability is made possible through a fully integrated plug-in that allows project teams to use Affinity software’s program modeling & design validation analysis tools from within Graphisoft’s leading BIM software tool, ArchiCAD.

                ArchiCAD 15

Architectural project files can be shared between Affinity and ArchiCAD, so project teams can start in either product and continue to synchronize the updates to the project files as necessary. For the architect, designer or builder who wants to continue tracking the progress of the design against the original program requirements, Affinity w/ ArchiCAD integration is an ideal design software tool.

How does it work?

Affinity is a flexible software tool that enables users to begin anywhere in the programming & design process. Whether starting with an ArchiCAD model that requires programming information & analysis in Affinity, or starting with a program in Affinity and continuing the detailed design in ArchiCAD, Affinity w/ ArchiCAD integration is able to meet your needs. While the bi-directional interoperability means that no linear process is requried, our Trelligence support & consulting team can recommend best practices to your firm based on your current process and desired goals. Here is some of what is possible when using Affinity in conjunction with ArchiCAD:

Combine Affinity & ArchiCAD Data for Design Validation Analysis

Scenario: A Project Team has Program Modeling information in Affinity and a Design in ArchiCAD.

Goal: Combine the program model & data in Affinity with the design in ArchiCAD and run analyses to ensure the design meets the program requirements.

Possible Steps

1. Load ArchiCAD design into Affinity
2. Run analyses in Affinity and make changes where discrepancies are found
3. Synchronize the Affinity and ArchiCAD files to update the design in ArchiCAD
4. Continue design in ArchiCAD and continue synchronizing to ensure continued design validation

Start with Affinity Program then Create ArchiCAD Design

Scenario: A Project Team starts with Affinity as its Program Modeling tool, builds a schematic design in Affinity, then starts a new ArchiCAD project for the detailed design.

Goal: Ensure the program information is complete, and initial schematic designs are run & finalized prior to entering the detailed design phase. Continue synchronization with ArchiCAD to ensure design validation.

Possible Steps

1. Enter program information in Affinity
2. Create conceptual/schematic design in Affinity
3. Run tests on multiple design scenarios & analyze for compliance with the program
4. Once the design is set and meets the program requirements, load it into a new ArchiCAD file
5. Continue with the detailed design in ArchiCAD, using the Affinity schematic design as a starting point
6. Continue synchronizing the files and running analyses for design-to-program validation

Reporting with Affinity

Scenario: Project Team uses Affinity with ArchiCAD integration and wants to report on the progress of the project for clients.

Goal: Easily create custom, professional reports for clients

Possible Steps:

1. Synchronize the Affinity & ArchiCAD files
2. Run reports from within ArchiCAD or from the Analysis section of Affinity
3. (Optional) Customize reports in Affinity
4. Send the reports to clients in CSV, HTML, Word, and other formats

Technical Requirements

Affinity is available on all current Microsoft Windows platforms. Minimum requirements:

  • Microsoft Windows® XP, Vista or Win 7 (32 or 64-bit)
  • CPU Speed: 700Mhz
  • Diskspace: 100MB
