Schedule Regular Deployment of Affinity Software Updates

We issue minor 'dot updates' (e.g. Affinity 8.1.73) of Affinity on a regular basis to ensure the software always includes current features and fixes. These updates are provided on the Customer Portal (for free) for you to download. While you do not need to download every update, it is best to ensure you are using a relatively current version of Affinity.

The updates do not automatically download to your computer, so we recommend that your IT department schedule regular downloads - once or twice a month - from the Customer Portal and deploy the updates to all users.

Note: The dot updates include minor fixes and some new features. If you experience any issues while working in Affinity, download the current version of Affinity from the Customer Portal as a first-step, as it is likely that we have already repaired them.

New visual cue shows when you exceed the Target Floor Area

In previous versions, the stacking diagram visually displays differences between the target floor area and the stacked building by showing the empty space at the end. However, it did not display when you were over your target floor area.

As of Affinity 8.1.75, there is a vertical line on each story of the stacking diagram that indicates the target floor area. You can see when you exceed the target by looking to the right of the target floor area indicator (the vertical line).

Maintaining Width : Height Ratio for Logos in Reports

When adding a logo to a report, you can maintain the width : height ratio by following these steps:

  1. In a table, set a cell Data Type = Image
  2. In the 'Set Background Image' dialog, select 'Pixels'
(The current width and height pixels are displayed)
  3. Check the 'maintain ratio' box
  4. Modify either the Width or Height value
  5. Press ENTER ('Tab' will not submit the change)
  6. The opposite value will adjust to preserve the existing ratio

Improved alerts prevent unintentional overwriting of Affinity files

As of Affinity 8.1.70, 'file open' alerts have been improved to notify you when another user has a file open and when you are risk of overwriting a file. Pay attention to these new alerts to avoid deleting the work of your team members. Here are the two warnings:

  1. File is in use by another user

Although the safe option is to select 'No' and open the file later when the other user is finished with it, there may be times when you just want to view the file for reference. If you choose 'Yes', you will have access to a read-only copy of the file (the 'Read-Only' label will appear next to the file name).

    read-only Affinity file

  2. read-only overwrite file option

This notification will appear if you try to save the read-only file. Although there are situations where a file may appear in use although it is not (e.g. if the User looses network connectivity), you will want to double-check before overwriting any changes another user may have made.

If you are unsure, you have the option to use 'Save As' to save a copy of that file instead of replacing the existing one.

Note: If two users have the same file open, whoever saves the file last will complete the final overwrite. Be sure to communicate with your team members.
